In 1862, David was assigned the land patented to Patrisio Hernandez, a solder of the Mexican War. The land was in Wabasha Couny, Minnesota where the town of Zumbro Falls is located today. His land, shown in green on the map at right, comprised 160 acres and included SW1/4 SE1/4 of Section 31, Township 110N, Range 13W and N1/2 SE1/4 and SE1/4 NE1/4 of Section 6, Township 109N, Range 13W. This map is a juxtaposition of a map of Gillford Township (top), Zumbro Township (lower left) and Hyde Park Township (blank, except for part of Section 6 as shown). The red and blue area taken together is the entire 160 acres that David patented in 1862. Before he died, David transferred the land in blue to his son Cyrenus, as shown by the copy of the deed in Cyrenus's album. David Soules, the father of the wives of Cyrenus and Uriah, arrived in 1865, and his land is shown in green. Viewed: 771 times.
