Above is a juxtaposition of maps of Gillford Township (top), Zumbro Township (lower left) and Hyde Park Township (blank, except for part of Section 6 as shown). The blue area represents the 80 acres transferred to Cyrenus by the 1863 deed from his father David, and the red and blue area taken together is the entire 160 acres that David had patented in 1862. David Soules arrived later, in 1865, and his land is shown in green. This map explains the family recollection that Cyrenus and Uriah operated a ferry in this location, since their father-in-law David Soules owned land on both sides of the Zumbro River. Cyrenus and his family were living on the land colored in blue in 1870, and Uriah and his family were living on the land colored in red. By 1880, Cyrenus's family had suffered a catastrophic fire and had moved to Mazeppa Township. After Cyrenus and his wife died, the children were distributed to various families and Cyrenus's brother Uriah took over Cyrenus's land without compensating the children. When they were adults, the children considered seeking compensation from Uriah's heirs, but never did so.
