1870 Census, Minnesota, Wabasha County, Gillford Township. Using a plat map (of unknown date) of Gillford Township, we can verify that this census shows Cyrenus and family living on the land his father, David W. Whaley, transferred to him in 1863. The neighbor shown in this census, William H. Clark, is shown on the undated plat map occupying land adjacent to the land transferred to Cyrenus by his father William. Note that Uriah, brother of Cyrenus, is living next door. A history of Zumbro Falls indicates Uriah was living across the river, occupying the house he purchased from David Tibbet and operating the ferry at this time. Cyrenus helped Rye to operate the ferry.
